Lewis Welcomes Special Visitor

Lewis Art students (K-5) welcomed Ugandan parliament member, Joshua Carter Anywarach.  Joshua, a former orphan, runs successful and sustainable agricultural projects designed to give orphans in Northern Uganda opportunities for self-generated income, so that they may pay for their own schooling and necessities.

Each grade level was presented with photos from Uganda showing both general lifestyle as well as the results of last year’s funds spent in Uganda on goat rearing and Irish potato crops.  Students were allowed some time for questions and answers and finally they were invited to sing and dance in traditional Ugandan style.

Students buzzed with excitement and maintained strong attentiveness and respectful interaction with our guest.   Likewise, Joshua humbly expressed deep gratitude for the life-saving work that the students have participated in, through the use of their art in The Uganda Project.

In the weeks to come, students will continue to work on and finish their art projects to be contributed to the Uganda Art Show.  As in years past, Uganda Art Shows will be announced through Art Newsletters sent home with students.  All donations from the Uganda Art Shows will feed directly into the establishment of more projects, furthering the impact of our students’ charity to the orphans of this remote part of the world.

Lewis Elementary has made a name for itself in Nebbi, Uganda, and our students have every reason to be proud of their powerful art work!  Thank you for all the parental support and for encouraging our students to be young people of “compassion!”
