Dr. Travis Hux to start as Superintendent on July 1st
Dear Excelsior Springs School District and Community:
I want to take this opportunity to express just how excited I am about becoming your next superintendent of schools. It is an honor and privilege to say the least. I am so grateful to have been chosen. I want you to know that I take this incredible opportunity seriously and plan to do everything I can to maintain the success of such an amazing school system.
Living nearby, I have long been aware of the great people who make up this community. I have friends and colleagues who grew up here and continue to boast about Excelsior Springs. I look forward to getting to know as many students, staff, parents and community members as possible. I also look forward to becoming a member of this community.
As your incoming superintendent, I want to tell you a little about my family and me. I am a father, husband, and lifelong educator. My wife Stella and I are blessed to have a six-year-old daughter, named Bella, who is currently in the first grade. Bella is very excited about starting second grade at a new school and cannot wait to meet the students of Excelsior Springs to make new friends. My wife Stella, works in the insurance industry, after having spent nearly 19 years working for the railroad. Her position is known as a claim specialist and she enjoys helping people “put the pieces back together” as she would say. As for me, I have been in education for 23 years, 15 of those spent in the Raytown School District (3 years in human resources and 12 years as an assistant superintendent). Previous to that, I have been both an elementary and middle school building administrator and started my career as a sixth-grade elementary science teacher. I received my bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Southeast Missouri State University in 1998 and 2001 respectively, as well as obtained my doctorate from Saint Louis University in 2004. I am from a town in southeast Missouri similar in size to Excelsior Springs. I feel lucky to have grown up in such a tight-knit community with good family values and look forward to giving my daughter the same experience by growing up in this community.
Over the coming months, I look forward to hearing from all of you to learn more about this district and community, including both successes and challenges. In recent interactions with patrons and staff members, it is clear to me that this community is “all in” with their support for students. Also, in speaking with administrators and board members, I can tell they are in this for the right reasons and wholly committed.
I too am committed and pledge to hit the ground running. Beyond the vision and mission, I will be devoted to our students’ achievement and growth, district fiscal responsibility, staff fulfillment, and stakeholder engagement. In the coming months, I will work with you to get a fresh take on the state of the district, identify areas of focus, partner for progress, and see it through.
As we begin working together, I am confident we can and will accomplish much. I plan to work with all stakeholders to build upon existing successes as well as take on any challenge that comes our way. Because it is together that we will continue the tradition of success within the Excelsior Springs School District.
Sincerely
Travis T. Hux, Ed.D.
